Dr. Mary Church Terrell, American Civil Rights Pioneer

Born into a life of privilege and wealth, Mary Eliza Church Terrell grew up to become one of the most
prolific early civil rights activists of her time.  She tirelessly championed the rights of women and people
of color and advocated for interracial understanding. Terrell positively impacted the living conditions of
Black Americans through social action, political reform, education, and writing.
